Yes, we have a whole department dedicated to taking care of all the steps involved in living and working in Thailand. Our company was founded in 2005 and is supported by the Board of Investment (BOI) here in Thailand, which makes us a safe and trustworthy company to work for. We take care of everything from visas to work permits, immigration reports, and health insurance. We also provide airfare to Thailand and accommodation during the first two weeks so that our new team members can settle in happily and discover the city. We employ more than 150 employees from various nationalities. We are a very diverse company. Currently, as we are expanding, we are looking to fill a large number of positions in Customer Care Representative. We are now recruiting German, French, Spanish, and Swiss members.
- What are the requirements to work at CLBS?
Job seekers must be over 22 years old, have a university or vocational degree, and a proof of 5 years of work experience in general or 2 years of work experience in a Call Center. They should have an open-minded nature and good communication skills. It is not mandatory to have worked in a secretarial or phone management role before; we train all our team members.

CLBS keeping up staff morale in challenging times
In 1982, Oldenburg and Brissett coined the term “Third place”, referring to the places where people meet to enjoy each other’s company. While home is the first place and work is the second, being able to go outside and hang out freely allows us to seek out our “third places”; places where we feel a connection and a sense of belonging to something other than home or work.
Throughout the pandemic, normal human interactions have been severely restricted, and slowly but surely, we have all experienced some form of emotional isolation. Now, however, for the first time in a long time, the situation is stabilising, and we are starting to feel a glimmer of hope and a sense of excitement for the new freedoms and socialising opportunities that are again becoming available.
Today we hear from CLBS, a Chiang Mai-based company that has been the “second place” for their employees from Europe and around the world, for the last 16 years. 7 Places To Find Inspiration In Chiang Mai

1. In a mud field
During the external team meeting, CLBS sent their German and Swiss team colleagues to learn all about Thai rice at Ginger Farm Chiang Mai. They suited up in Mor Hom, the traditional Thai farmer’s outfit, learned how rice is processed, how to cook rice in the traditional Thai style, met and took some pictures with a water buffaloม and got dirty like they enjoyed it as they were kids.
2. In a potter’s house
While two teams enjoyed fresh air and mud, another German team went to a therapeutic hand-building pottery workshop to learn how to shape clay, glaze and fire their masterpieces at Yanim's Ceramic Studio which helped ease away extra stress and reveal their artistic side at the same time.
3. In front of a canvas and an easel
Brushstroke and pigments are good at keeping you focused. Need proof? The German, UK, and Spanish teams can guarantee that. They spent hours in front of their canvas without even noticing how much time had passed during the Acrylic Painting Workshop at The Warehouse - Paint Club. Since then, they found that their office looks a lot better with all the masterpieces hanging on the walls.
4. In the shade of Suthep mountain
Another German team discovered a peaceful forest house called Studio Naenna at Soi Chang khian where they joined a natural indigo tie-dye workshop, learned, and played with shibori techniques to make patterns and brought home the pieces of art they created. How happy were they? Look at those beaming smiles on their faces!
5. In a kitchen
While other teams enjoyed getting into art and crafts, CLBS Italian colleagues went to Buddha Raksa Nature Farm to pick up some fresh ingredients for plant-based cooking. The workshop started with a farm tour before getting in the kitchen with fresh-picked vegetables. They learned how to cook banana blossoms deliciously, made Khao Soi, had pumpkin in sweet coconut milk as the dessert, and turmeric tea as an immune booster drink. Who says cooking is mundane? Forget that! It’s super fun and inspiring.
6. In the most beautiful miniature golf course in Chiang Mai
For the person who gains energy from being outdoorsy, CLBS French and Italian teams had recommended Hansa Mini Golf, a beautifully designed miniature golf course in Sansai that offers the guest a journey through fascinating world’s architectures at every pit stop: Stonehenge, Easter Islands, Pyramids, Colosseum, the Great Wall of China, and many more. It’s a combo of challenging activities and wonderful sightseeing, good for team building!
7. In a kayak
Last but not least, there’s nothing like an exhilarating kayaking excursion surrounded by natural splendor! Team Building Event - CLBS goes white water rafting
CLBS Ltd. - an employee focused company in Chiang Mai, took their employees on an adventurous field trip at the 8Adventures camp in Mae Taeng to build a culture of teamwork and to support local businesses at the same time.
"Our 2- hour whitewater rafting sounded like a very long journey, but the time went by so fast and was filled with lots of fun. Some of the sections gave us adrenaline rushes, some of them were surprisingly relaxing and calm. Every second of this 10 km rafting trip was breathtaking scenery; Spectacular flora and fauna, bright blue skies and bubbling white waters."
"At first, the surging white rapids looked a little intimidating for some of us, but once we were all sitting in our places, paddles in hands, we felt confident because there were so many safety professionals around us. Each group had its own trained leader from 8Adventures, and we felt like they truly knew every single rock in the river."
Those are messages from the staff. They all had an exciting wet 'n' wild day out joining the 10 km whitewater rafting activity where they gained teamship and new adventurous experience.

CLBS Rise & Shine – Wellness Getaway
For the last 15 years, Chiang Mai Lanna Business Services, aka CLBS, has taken great joy in celebrating its “birthday”, with its many employees, at some of the ritziest venues in this fine city. Five-star venues such as Le Meridien and the Shangri-La hotels have hosted huge parties with fine-dining, free flow cocktails, the best of local entertainment and grand prize giveaways. At the beginning of 2020, plans were already underway for the fifteenth CLBS birthday bash. 2020 however, had other plans...
COVID did what COVID does and all plans were cancelled, much to the dismay of many employees who had already experienced one of these parties. Months passed being either holed up at work or locked up at home. Holidays were cancelled and plans were ruined. Businesses were closing left and right, and it was impossible to enjoy even the simple things, like going out for dinner or for a walk in a national park. They were dark times that left a lot of people feeling sad and emotionally worn out. There was, however, a light at the end of the tunnel.
As new COVID cases in Chiang Mai slowly reduced to zero, measures were reduced, and people were allowed to get back towards some semblance of normality. It was at this point that CLBS decided that the normal celebration of drinking and dancing the night away, although fun, might not be what was needed by their employees at this time, and it was here that the “CLBS Rise & Shine Wellness Retreat” was born.
All employees were invited to Veranda High Resort for a one day, one-night stay in their five-star facilities. More than 120 employees joined the wellness retreat, designed to allow them to recharge and balance their energies in a stunningly beautiful and natural location.
During the day, wellness workshops were hosted by employees who wished to share their knowledge and skills. Employees could pick and choose which workshops they wanted to attend. The workshops included cooking demonstrations teaching easy healthy recipes such as Zoodles (noodles made from zucchini), aromatherapy candle making, reiki energy balancing techniques, energy ball making with raw and natural ingredients, an organic facial scrub making course, yoga, fitness classes, meditation with our resident ex-monk and even a morning alms ceremony the following day.
In the afternoon, retreaters were left to recharge and soak up some sun and some positive energy by one of the three pools; or to take an adventurous hike up to Wat Phra That Si Mueang Pong with some local guides. Once all the activities and lounging were done for the day, it was time to head back to the luxurious rooms, to dress for the evening's dinner ceremony. The dress code for the evening was all white, representing the wellness, light and purity that was the theme for the event.
Sunkissed, smiling faces, dining on local cuisine, and fancy imported treats, amongst some of Chiang Mai’s lushest mountainous forest, seemed a long way from the worries and confusion of “the new normal”. After dinner, prizes were given out including a number of vouchers for Veranda High Resort’s award-winning spa, and then it was time for some soulful acoustic music from yet another of their talented employees.
After a restful night’s sleep in Veranda’s extremely comfortable beds, the early birds of the company were up for morning alms and a yoga session, before they joined the lay-in lovers for a healthy breakfast. It was then, once again, time to enjoy the sun and the swimming pools until check-out.
CLBS would like to thank Veranda and all its staff for the wonderful stay, its event team for all their hard work arranging the wellness retreat, and finally their employees for volunteering to host workshops and for representing our company during their stay, in a way that made us all proud.

DIY Krathong Workshop
Tuesday, 12th November, CLBS invited all their staff and members of the public to join their annual DIY Krathong workshop at Kad Klang Wiang, to celebrate the most beautiful and meaningful festival in Thailand, Loi Krathong.
Loi Krathong takes place on the evening of the full moon in the 12th month of the traditional Thai lunar calendar. Loi literally means 'to float,' while krathong refers to the lotus-shaped receptacle which floats on the water. Regardless of the composition, a krathong will be decorated with elaborately-folded banana leaves, flowers, candles and incense sticks. During the night of the full moon, Thais will float their krathong on a river, canal or pond lake. The festival is believed to originate in an ancient practice of paying respect to the spirits of the water. The host of the free workshop, CLBS Ltd., provided the material and instructions on how to make the krathong to all participants. It was a bit tricky to learn the folding techniques but once one got it, everyone let their creativity run freely. All participants left with a smile and hopefully, everyone let go and make a wish.

As the Managing Director of CLBS-Chiang Mai Lanna Business Services Ltd., Matthias Schenk believes the best approach to growing a business and to changing the world is to focus on the individual development of each person in that company. Where are you from and for how long have you been working at CLBS?
"I am from Berlin. I started working at CLBS 11 years ago. Before that I was working in one of their partner companies in Germany."
What do you like most about CLBS?
"I like the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the company but, most of all, I like the idea of working within a multicultural team and environment. Having so many people from so many different backgrounds is always interesting. Of course, being located in the fascinating city of Chiang Mai is another reason why we all love working here."
Name one of the biggest challenges in your profession?
"With 180 foreign employees, one of the biggest challenges is to adhere to the regulations of the Thai government. Thai laws are revised often, and we must be up to date at all times. But we were very proud to be invited by the Thai government to be one of the first five companies in Thailand to test the new online work permit service. Another interesting challenge is to help our employees by trying to be a kind of substitution for family and friends to our team members when they, sometimes, feel lost or homesick. Living in a different country with a different culture can be difficult sometimes, but not for long."
Does your company also employ students?
"Yes, we have a "Work and Study" project which allows younger employees to work at CLBS and study English or Thai languages at Chiang Mai University. At the end of their six-month contract, they receive a certificate from us. Most of the time, they enjoy living here so much that they want to continue the experience: that's why they usually sign-up for a one-year contract with us in Chiang Mai, before going back to their country."
In Chiang Mai, what do you like to do during your days off?
"I like to discover new coffee shops, then just sit in and relax."
What is your favourite restaurant?
"There are so many! But I like Street Pizza's balcony a lot."

Work & Study in Chiang Mai with CLBS

CLBS – Supporting Local Coffee Makers
How good a cup of coffee can be when you are working on your computer? Well, at CLBS-Chiang Mai Lanna Business Services Ltd. this cup of coffee will be twice as good as anywhere else as it is locally produce and company staff has now met with the manufacturers.
Last November, CLBS organized a field trip to visit the family of Hmong Doi Pui Coffee plantation, which is the coffee brand they will use in their office. Staff got to see how they grow, roast and brew Hmong Doi Pui coffee Plantation is a small Temple. It was important for CLBS to select a local company to work with.

CLBS So Much Into The Community
Chiang Mai Lanna Business Ltd. was well presented at different cultural and social occasions throughout Chiang Mai in the first half of the year 2014 to show its social responsibility as well as cultural and regional interest. It started with a sponsorship of the Trio for Justice charity walk in January 2014.

CLBS’s Sporty New Year Start
"Get together and do something good" is the motto that CLBS Ltd. chose for early January. With its sponsorship of the Trip for Justice the company made its own mark for social justice in South East Asia. The charity walk has been running for the last 5 years and is growing increasingly popular. As team spirit and social awareness are distinctive attributes of the corporate culture of CLBS Ltd. the company involved its employees in the Trio for Justice Project. Some of them indicated their athleticism by their participation in the run and others supported the charity event by volunteering. The company rewarded great athletes with major sporting achievements and honorable social awareness.
